JPCatholic's MBA in Film Producing Program exists for one reason: to Impact Culture for Christ through compelling mainstream entertainment. Our curriculum features a unique mix you won't find anywhere else: marketing and finance, film and TV script development, film production, Hollywood networking seminars, and the chance to apply all of your knowledge in your capstone project. The program takes place within a dynamic Catholic environment where you can prepare for the challenges of the industry under the guidance of accomplished industry veterans.

Creative Producing and Story Development

The Creative Producing classes focuses on developing stories that are marketable and have the power to draw mainstream audiences closer to truth. The program will empower you with the ability to make crucial creative decisions in the most fundamental and important aspect of film-making: the story.

Execute on Complex Creative Projects

You'll have the opportunity to master the details around executing on a complex film, TV or new media projects. Students will spend time on set gaining experience producing a real media production. You'll master the craft of producing by blending the creative and the managerial, while orchestrating all the various skills to make a story come to life on screen.

Management Training

JPCatholic’s MBA program stands apart from so many MFA degrees because of its business underpinning. Our program includes critical courses in management, budgeting and scheduling, finance, marketing, distribution, and media law. You will focus on understanding the complex dynamics in the entertainment field – moving from script to green-light, to pre -production and production, to post and finally to distribution.

John Paul the Great Catholic University is centered in north county San Diego, just a 35-minute drive from downtown in America's Finest City. Southern California is famous for its fantastic weather, beautiful beaches and mountains, and bustling metropolitan areas. Our campus is just 15 miles from the beach, a short trip by car or train. And with Los Angeles and Hollywood within striking distance, students have even more opportunities for internships and networking.

In your fifth and final quarter, you will have the opportunity to get a significant internship during our LA Quarter.  These 10 weeks open up a host of new opportunities for internships, networking, and experiencing life in the creative capital of the world.  In addition to your internship, you’ll take our Hollywood Mentor Series seminars in Los Angeles and meet with experienced and talented professionals in intimate small group settings. We’ll introduce you to professionals who share your desire to Impact Culture for Christ through compelling entertainment.

Meet the Faculty

  • A screenwriter with 20 years of experience, whose first film, After The Truth, an award-winning courtroom thriller written with his wife, Kathleen Riley, sparked international controversy when it was released in Germany.
  • A veteran of the Warner Bros. script department, Riley is the author of The Hollywood Standard: The Complete and Authoritative Guide to Script Format and Style. From 2005 through 2008, he served as director of the acclaimed Act One Writing Program in Hollywood, which trains Christians for careers as writers and executives in film and TV.
  • A television broadcast executive with demonstrated experience across a broad range of disciplines with significant experience in the development and execution of strategic plans, team building and personnel management, fundraising, project management, and community relations.
  • Co-founded a broadcast television station and managed multiple TV studios, as well as large editorial, production, operations and engineering staff.
  • Worked as a studio director at CNN; served as a member of the White House Press Corps and traveled extensively with President Reagan during his term.
  • Has his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland and a Masters degree from the Arizona State University.
  • A working director in Hollywood
  • He directed The Least of These, released in 2011 by Universal and the TV movie The Perfect Summer, starring Eric Roberts.
  • Won the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl contest in 2012 and 2013 with “Sling Baby” and “Fashionista Daddy.”
  • Written and developed projects for many companies in Hollywood.

  • A filmmaker, businessman and a veteran of the international film festival scene. His wide-ranging career has included writing, directing & producing the western/thriller 'The Sorrow', as well as serving as an executive producer on 'The Kid: Chamaco'..
  • Currently works for the motion picture production/distribution company Rogue Arts as a film and television producer and a distribution executive.
  • Has an MBA from Alliant International University; a Master of Professional Writing from USC. Earned a BFA in Film from the world-renowned Art Center College of Design and a received a BS from Excelsior College.
  • Began his professional career over 20 years ago on the Paramount Studios lot working for Entertainment Tonight in the post-production department.
  • Produced, directed, wrote and edited hundreds of television commercials, documentaries, sports and entertainment programs and news stories.
  • Worked for local and national cable television networks, independent production companies and a local broadcast affiliate.
  • Won numerous national and regional awards for television production, including 4 Telly Awards and a Cable ACE Award.
  • Received his BA in Television, Radio and Film Production from California State University, Long Beach.
