Transfer Credit

  • The Transfer Office reviews possible transfer credit after acceptance to JPCatholic. Transfer credit awards are contingent upon submission of official transcripts with final grades for all coursework.
  • If you are interested in transferring to JPCatholic, please complete the application for admission and submit your official college transcripts and AP/CLEP exam scores from the College Board.
  • The student is solely responsible for providing JPCatholic with the required information for the credits that they have already earned at another institution of higher learning. Once the Transfer Office reviews the applicant's transcripts; the student will be contacted with the details of the evaluation.
  • Except for one-to-one course substitutions, credit conversion from semester to quarter equals semester course credits multiplied by 1.5, i.e. (Semester Credits) x 1.5 = (Quarter Credits). One-to-one course substitutions transfer as 3 quarter credits.
  • Transfer credit totals in each category of the requirements for a degree must be divisible by 3. If the transfer credit total in a particular category is not divisible by 3, then the credit will be rounded down to the nearest multiple of 3. For example, 13.5 transfer credits would be rounded down to 12 transfer credits.
  • Up to 90 quarter credits maximum can transfer for undergraduate students. Transfer students may join the JPCatholic academic program as up to and including first-quarter junior status.
  • No more than 25% of an undergraduate student’s total transfer credit can be C grades (anything lower than a C cannot transfer).
  • For graduate students, transfer credits may not exceed 30% of the program’s curriculum.
  • No more than 25% of a graduate student’s total transfer credit can be C grades (anything lower than a C cannot transfer).

No. Grade points earned at other institutions are excluded in the computation of your cumulative GPA at JPCatholic. Your JPCatholic GPA will be based on your course work at the University.

If you are accepted to JPCatholic, the Transfer Office will review your college transcripts and provide you with a copy of the evaluation showing accepted transfer credit and where it applies to the degree.

  • JPCatholic’s curriculum follows a unique distribution that differs from the standard method of completing GE requirements first and then major-specific coursework, which is a factor in the overall time that it will take to graduate. A visual representation of the curriculum distribution at JPCatholic can be viewed here.
  • Overall time to complete a degree is not directly correlated to the amount of transfer credit awarded. Transfer students will normally spend between a minimum of six and a maximum of twelve quarters at JPCatholic. Consult with the Transfer Office to determine the length of time it will take for you to graduate.
  • Time to complete a degree depends on multiple factors, including but not limited to, (a) awarded transfer credit, (b) full-time or part-time status, (c) failed courses, (d) course availability [each course is usually taught just once a year], (e) change in major/emphasis, etc.
  • Pursuit of a double major/emphasis generally increases overall time to complete a degree. Changing one’s major/emphasis may also result in loss of transfer credit, e.g., where the new major/emphasis has different requirements.
  • Students pursuing the MBA in Film Producing must complete a minimum of 69 credits of graduate coursework. The program must be started in the fall quarter and generally takes 12-15 months to finish. Please see the University Catalog for more details.
