JPCatholic Launches BFA in Narrative Arts and Expands Opportunities for Storytellers and Evangelists
July 1, 2026
John Paul the Great Catholic University is pleased to announce the launch of a new Bachelor of Fine Arts in Narrative Arts, beginning in Fall 2026. The program will offer two emphases, Screenwriting and Fiction, and will be led by Professor Megan Jauregui Eccles, Chair of Creative Writing.
The degree creates new pathways for students pursuing careers in storytelling across multiple media, while retaining the previous pathways.
Screenwriting students, previously within the BS in Communications Media, will now have three programs to choose from, based on which degree core aligns with their career goals:
- BS in Communications Media, Emphasis in Screenwriting
- BA in Humanities, Emphasis in Screenwriting
- BFA in Narrative Arts, Emphasis in Screenwriting
Likewise, Creative Writing students, previously within the BA in Humanities, will now have two programs to choose from:
- BA in Humanities, Emphasis in Creative Writing
- BFA in Narrative Arts, Emphasis in Fiction
Screenwriting students will learn the art and craft of writing for film and television, while Fiction students will focus their studies on narrative prose and literary storytelling. All five pathways combine intensive creative practice with mentorship from working professionals and a foundation in the Catholic intellectual tradition.
Alongside the launch of the BFA in Narrative Arts, JPCatholic is also introducing a renewed emphasis in Catholic Education & Evangelization within its Bachelor of Arts in Humanities. Led by Professor Justin Panlasigui, Chair of Humanities, the revised emphasis builds upon the university's former New Evangelization emphasis while providing students with stronger preparation for careers in Catholic education, ministry, catechesis, and evangelization.
“Our new Catholic Education & Evangelization emphasis will help students develop an important skillset for today's intra- and extra-ecclesial landscape,” said Panlasigui. “We are eager to help form young catechists and evangelists so they can sustain and revitalize the evangelical mission of the Church, promote a vibrant liturgical culture in their personal lives and within their communities, and anchor themselves to Scripture, Tradition, and the Deposit of Faith.”
Together, these program developments reflect JPCatholic's commitment to forming graduates who can communicate truth, beauty, and goodness through both creative expression and faithful witness.
