Pelican's Plume: The Perch
John Paul the Great Catholic University's student-published journal Pelican's Plume provides a platform for students to share original works of creative writing, poetry, illustration, and more. We operate as a professional masthead, generate written and visual work for the journal, solicit submissions from the larger community of students and alumni, and hone our editing and proofreading skills as we oversee the issue’s production.
Pelicans, in times of famine, nourish their young with blood from their own breasts. This phenomenon inspired our journal’s title; for, just in this way, artists sacrifice themselves to slake the world’s constant hunger for beauty. Pelican’s Plume seeks to honor such artists and to foster—for them and our readership—a sensitive, discriminating community that values the beautiful.
The Perch club is proud to offer online publication opportunities during the winter, spring, and summer quarters, when the literary journal class that produces the print edition of the Plume is not in session. In our Friday twice-monthly posts, you will find poetry, prose, and visual art produced by you, JPCatholic students and alumni!
But I don't write stories or poetry, and I'm not an illustrator or photographer, you think. I can't submit anything. THINK AGAIN! We are on the lookout for well-written media reviews, creative or narrative nonfiction, and interviews. Our website link is coming very soon. Until then, submit your pieces here! The form is also linked from our Instagram.
If you have questions, comments, or ideas, please reach out! We would be thrilled to hear from you.
