Fr Richard Huston, first Chaplain, Dies

Fr. Richard Huston passed away on Saturday afternoon, May 14th at 3:00pm at the age of 91. He was a priest of the Diocese of San Diego and served as JPCatholic Chaplain for our first decade, starting in 2006. He also served as senior priest at Good Shepherd Parish and as Chaplain to the Courage ministry. Fr Huston was a holy priest, who was never afraid to faithfully proclaim the teachings of Jesus Christ. JP Catholic students and community were truly blessed to have him serve. Fr Huston was ordained at age 69 after his wife of 43 years died. His family includes 6 great-grand daughters..
Funeral Mass: Wednesday May 31st, 2017 at 11am at Good Shepherd Parish Church
University president Dr. Derry Connolly reminisced on the first Mass he ever heard Fr Huston celebrate 'I was deeply touched by his gentleness and reverence.' Later, when Fr Huston was appointed JPCatholic chaplain by Bishop Brom, then Bishop of San Diego - Dr Connolly felt the University could have not been more blessed. Fr Huston served almost to his 90th birthday. He considered his ministry to our students as one of the major blessings of his priesthood. Fr Huston personified everything beautiful about the priesthood. He was an amazing witness to Jesus Christ in every dimension of his priestly life. May he rest in peace.
