JPCatholic Launches Free Online Learning Platform with Crash Course in Storytelling

December 16, 2019

John Paul the Great Catholic University is excited to announce the launch of JPCatholic Online, an e-learning platform with free continuing education resources for the public. The offerings at launch include a Crash Course in Storytelling as well as recorded lectures from the on-campus Impacting Culture Speaker Series.

The Crash Course in Storytelling offers key principles of storytelling from veterans of Pixar's Braintrust, Warner Bros. Script Department, and Hollywood writers' rooms. Each of the five lessons are given by faculty of JPCatholic, and the topics include adaptation, narrative structure, integrating personal themes into your stories, best practices for TV writing, and more. The videos are available on demand for learners to enjoy the content at their own pace. Each lesson comes with optional assignments or resources, but there is no required homework, and the course is not for credit.

JPCatholic Online also offers video content from the Impacting Culture Speaker Series. These on-campus talks feature industry professionals and thought leaders discussing their insights on the creative arts, innovation, and culture. Recent guests have included Tim Reckart, Director of The Star, and Dan Molina, a senior editor at Disney. These recorded lectures are available to watch for free on the JPCatholic Online platform, and future lecture recordings will also be posted there.

“With the launch of JPCatholic Online, we are thrilled to share with people everywhere the exciting speakers that visit campus, as well as share ‘nuggets of knowledge’ from our superb faculty on a whole variety of topics,” said President Derry Connolly. “We hope people will enjoy our Crash Course in Storytelling and return often to explore the new content we will be adding.”
