New Minors Added in Digital Music and Creative Entrepreneurship
March 26, 2021
JPCatholic is excited to announce the addition of two new minors. Effective immediately, students will be able to pursue minors in Digital Music and Creative Entrepreneurship.
In recent years, JPCatholic has increased elective offerings for students interested in music, the majority taught by Prof. Robert Giracello. This growing sequence of electives is now formally structured into a Digital Music minor for students to pursue. The nine courses include offerings such as Music Appreciation, Scoring Lab, Electronic Music Composition, Music Theory, Composition and Songwriting, and Music in Media.
“Anyone who has ever attended a coffee house or singer/songwriter event at JPCatholic knows how many incredible musicians we have in our community,” said George Simon, Chair of Communications Media. “The talent and passion for music that our students have inspired us to begin adding music classes to our curriculum. These classes have grown into a dynamic set of courses in music theory, audio recording, composing, and electronic music production. By formalizing these courses into a Digital Music Minor, students have the opportunity to develop their talents and empower themselves as artists to create music in the form of songs, scores for films and video games, commercials, podcasts and beyond.”
“I couldn't be happier with the development of our music minor,” said Prof. Robert Giracello. “We have so many dedicated and talented students, having the minor option is a great step forward for them and for the school.”
The Creative Entrepreneurship minor is similar to the existing Business minor in that it only requires three business courses beyond the seven that all students must take in the General Education. Students can earn the Creative Entrepreneurship minor by taking the Business Launchpad sequence, three hands-on courses which involve designing a product or service inside a business model, drafting a business plan, and launching a real company with faculty mentorship.
“Our unique ability to connect the creative arts with creative entrepreneurs is a powerful combination in our quest to Impact Culture for Christ and now is the time to bring these complementary capabilities closer together in this minor for the benefit of our students,” said Bob Keith, Chief Academic Officer and Professor of Creative Entrepreneurship.
